New Architecture and Design Museum
Making a National Museum
A new museum of architecture and design is being developed for the Helsinki waterfront. An exciting destination for architecture and design lovers, this national museum of tomorrow will also be a place for learning, sharing, and coming together for all curious minds. A new museum building near the historic harbor in central Helsinki will house state-of-the-art exhibitions and forward-looking programs. With new technologies, a global audience will be able to participate in the conversation. The new museum will merge the Museum of Finnish Architecture and the Design Museum (and their substantial collections) into one, with the whole representing much more than the sum of its parts, it will be a great asset for city inhabitants and visitors alike.
DVDL is acting as an international advisor and strategist on the project, helping to formulate the vision for the national museum project. Our involvement spans work with the client on the overall positioning of the new museum and its content, service portfolio, and space program, to setting up an international advisory group, conducting extensive benchmark research, and currently, working closely with the museum’s project team and real estate board to prepare the next phase of development.
